One for One

For every pair you buy, they give a pair to charity!

Since being founded by Blake Mycoskie in May 2006 TOMS have given away over 10,000 pair of shoes to children in Argentina and 50,000 to children in South Africa.
Very cool shoes (lightweight, funky prints and really good value for money), and with an even better cause these are well worth considering! I did, I bought some and was suitably impressed!
However, the business concept in place is the true piece of design. House of Fraser representative Notts said "we don't make any profit from TOMS, but the publicity is enough!"

Everyone buys....Everyone talks!

visit the website for more info- a really simple, well designed site...perfectly represents the tone of voice TOMS wish to promote!

Keira for Chanel

The on going campaign continues with this ad for Coco Mademoiselle. It has been said the campaign reflects Keira Knightley's evolution into a Hollywood icon, but many have disagreed saying she is simply to thin and too flawed to be the sexy face of the prestigious french fashion house? However, Jacques Helleu art director for the company said it is this flawed natural beauty that made her ideal for the job!
I personally feel she pulls it off, the quintessentially English colouring of the actress does compliment the elegance and grace Chanel promotes. If celebrity endorsement works, why not? Although I'm not a fan of the Joss stone version of the classic song accompanying the film...to me it goes against the concept completely! Classy? the best? not very Joss Stone! Why not just stick to the original!

Viktor&Rolf

Amsterdam based fashion brand Viktor&Rolf get ahead of the game with this classy and unique site. An 'in-house' guided tour with the premise of access to every part of the creators world provides a new angle to the traditional fashion label website.
The colours and sophisticated simplicity of the site compliment the chic style of the new clothing and perfume collections. Even though the site works on so many levels it's still user friendly.
A private members club style application is available to cleverly make the user feel extra special!
Only quarm i had was the 'on trend' background music but you can opt to switch it off!

Kelloggs Rice Krispies Advert

Kelloggs Rice Krispies Advert

When I saw this advert I couldn't help noticing how dull it is, especially when aimed at children and parents. As a child it definitely wouldn't have attracted me to rice crispies!I I also feel they made poor choices when casting the ad, the 'family' have differing accents from really northern to southern and the two younger children look extremely close in age! If this is conceptually supposed to represent an exciting breakfast experience then i feel there's a communication problem somewhere! I checked out the website of the company responsible for the ad and was surprised at the cheesey voice over and slightly naff website! check it out

'The Story of the Supremes'

Location: V&A Museum, South Kensington, London
                   13th May-19th October
                   £5 admission

The V&A are hosting 'The story of the Supremes from the Mary Wilson collection' until mid October this year. In my opinion the best museum in central London hosts this glitter fest story of the groups formation juxtaposed against the backdrop of the American civil rights movement.
A treat for the eyes plus the chance to learn more about the cultural and social elements effecting America at this time!

On show - over 50 outfits charting their changing image
                 - the groups music, album covers, promo posters and archive performance footage

Going underground

Cornelia Parker

Liam Gillick (Turner Prize shortlisted)

Mark Wallinger (Turner Prize Winner)

London Underground commissioned various creatives to produce a series of art works to be used across the tube network.
All of these cool images are inspired  the network itself....for example Cornelia Parkers abstract lines represent the various tube lines and so the colours used are true to colours of the lines on the map.

London 2012 olympics ident

So, what do we all think of the 2012 Olympic ident?
It has been said to have "a recognizable brash character", I can't deny the truth in this statement, but like many others I really don't rate the design. When compared to previous examples such as the 'Mexico 68' designed by US designer Lance Wyman I feel our  choice lacks sophistication and design credibility! If this is to represent us as a nation I'm not sure that we are giving off the right impression!?

I would be really interested in any of your opinions......
